This technique uses active RFID technology with fixed antennas covering the locating area. Locating is done based on the RFID signal send from the tags and received by fixed antennas. The antennas register the time when the RFID signal is received and send it to the locating engine. Based on the time difference per antenna for the same RFID signal, the locating engine is able to determine the location of a tag. (reference case)
This technique combines passive UHF RFID technology with the worldwide available GPS coordinates. At the moment the object is moved it will be connected to a RFID scanner with GPS functionality. During the movement the scanner registers the GPS coordinates for the RFID tag until it arrives at the final destination. As soon as the link between tag and RFID scanner is broken, the last GPS location is stored for the RFID tag.
