Optimization in the pipeline

In the ValueChain Management magazine of May 2018, Brent Fischer of ShawCor discusses the use of AutoID in the oil and gas sector.
ShawCor’s Pipe Performance Product division specialises in coating the steel pipes used in this sector.

These tubes remain in the possession of the Operator who will lay the pipeline and are moved on average 8-10 times before they reach their destination. ShawCor, together with the other links in the chain, must be able to provide a complete report of all the logistic movements they carry out. Previously, this process was manually tracked, which is not only an intensive and dangerous task, but also an inefficient and error-prone way of reporting.

Together with Mieloo & Alexander, the company looked for a solution to optimize this process by using RFID tags. In the article the challenges, the various scenarios of this project and the possibilities it offers for the sector are discussed in more detail.
