AUTO-ID

Automatic identification and data capture (AIDC or Auto-ID) refers to methods, technology and devices that automatically identify objects, collect their data and enter the data into computer systems, without human involvement.

Examples of Auto-ID are bar codes, QR codes, RFID tags and their respective readers; magnetic stripe cards, biometrics (iris, voice, palm or facial recognition), optical character recognition (OCR) and smart cards.
