Logistics innovation at PostNL
Processing millions of parcels, letters, and pallets daily, PostNL operates in an environment where speed, accuracy, and scalability are critical. To stay ahead of growing customer and e-commerce demands, the company invests heavily in logistics automation and innovation. Since 2007, PostNL has worked with Mieloo & Alexander to introduce cutting-edge RFID and IoT technologies into its logistics operations.

Real-time visibility and process optimization with RFID
Integrated RFID components
The collaboration led to the rollout of an integrated RFID solution at several key locations, including the state-of-the-art IMEC sorting center in The Hague.
The solution includes:
RFID portals at dock doors automatically register the inbound and outbound movement of reusable pallet boxes—no manual intervention needed.
-
RFID antennas above conveyor belts detect parcels automatically, enabling error-free registration and increased processing capacity.
-
The cloud-based ARC Base EPCIS platform stores all data in real time, providing dashboards for full visibility and data-driven decision-making.
- International shipments can now be tracked passively without manual barcode scanning.
This combination of powerful hardware, such as the Zebra FX9600 RFID readers, and smart middleware enables PostNL to fully automate and monitor logistics processes.
